This upcoming weekend marks the official start of the Volksfest season! The Würzburg Spring Fun Fair is the first big fair to take place in Bavaria every year, opening its gates on Saturday. Until March 20th, the fairground Talavera is transforming into a fun amusement park, offering everything from rollercoasters and shooting galleries to corndogs and cotton candy. Even if it doesn’t really feel like spring is coming yet, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy the lively Volksfest atmosphere in the traditional beer tent.
Fun fair anticipation aside, we put together a small selection of things to do and go see in Würzburg this week. Here are our picks:
- MONDAY: Blue Monday Jazz Session (live music)
@ Omnibus; 9pm
Every Monday, students of the Würzburg Academy of Music meet at the music bar Omnibus for an open jam session. Enjoy an evening of drinks and live music – or even join in on stage if you’re up for it!
- TUESDAY: 1. Komische Nacht Würzburg (German comdey festival)
@ various locations; 6pm; 18 EUR
If you’re into stand-up comedy, Tuesday will be the night for you.
- WEDNESDAY: Sound-Hospital (pub/party)
@ Till Eulenspiegel; 7pm
The quaint bar Till Eulenspiegel is one of the gems on Sanderstraße, Würzburg’s “pub mile”. Check out the “Sound-Hospital” party for a great beer selection and some fun on the dancefloor.
- THURSDAY: Vincent Peters - In the Light (photo exhibition)
@ IMMAGIS art gallery; vernissage 6pm
Vincent Peters is a renowned fashion photographer, shooting for high-end magazines and brands (think VOGUE and Dior). The exhibition “In the Light” shows a cross-section of his work, portraying international movie stars, models, and artists. Also, it’s free!
- FRIDAY: Shawn The Savage Kid (Hip Hop)
@ Bechtolsheimer Hof; 8:30pm; 12 EUR; Support: Qlasterr, Grafi, Desto&Nasher
The B-Hof is one of our favourite places to see live bands. If (German) Hip Hop is your thing, we’d highly recommend checking out “Shawn The Savage Kid” from Regensburg on Friday.
- SATURDAY: Würzburger Früjahrsvolksfest (Fun Fair 05.03.-20.03.)
@ Talavera; Mo-Thu 2pm-11pm, Fr-Sa 2pm-midnight, So noon-10:30pm

- SUNDAY: Würzburger Gästeführertag (city tours)

To celebrate the 700 year anniversary of the town hall (wow!), Würzburg is organizing a special day of guided city tours on Sunday. Check out the website for details on what kind of tours are offered.
